camaro engine swap question

i have a '91 camaro, with a 3.1l v6, but its blown. this friend of mine has recently pulled the engine out of his '84 chevy s10 (carb'd 4.3l v6). will it easily fit in my 'maro?

also, i would like to know if the crankshaft, bearings, etc.. is swappable from:

the 4.3 into my 3.1
a 2.8l into my 3.1
3.4l into my 3.1
if the crank from (i have a '78 buick skylark, 231cid 3.8l v6) my buick will fit into my 3.1l.

Thanks.

The 2.8, 3.1, and 3.4 are the same basic 60 degree V6 engine with different stroke & bore. Some parts interchange between them.

The 4.3 is based on the 350 SBC, with two cylinders cut off. Some parts interchange between the 4.3 and 350.

The 3.8 is a Buick 90 degree V6. It is completely different from the two families above, with a unique bellhousing mount pattern.

Putting a 4.3 into a 3rd gen has been done. It's about the same as putting in a 350, but slightly harder since the factory never did it and the aftermarket doesn't support it. Although, it's easier than putting a 3.8 in.

The easiest larger V6 swap would be to put a 3.4 in place of your 3.1. Only you can decide if the 4.3 (which I assume you would get either free or at a very low price) is worth the effort.

the engine from the s10 is more likely to be a 2.8 if original. so your better off with a 3.4 swap or v-8 swap. there is no advantage to me in putting in a 2.8 unless you need to do it very cheap.

One more question. Will the crank from a 2.8l and everything associated with it, fit in my 3.1?

If anyone is pondering what happened, i'll tell you.

I bought my camaro dec 2005 for $300. Soon after, approx. 5 months it started leaking oil, very badly, rear main seal. Me being 20, and this being my first car, not having very much experience and such with auto's. So i just added the quart of oil it needed about every month. Then... it got worse. One day, i was cruising on the freeway, about 80 mph, almost home, and the engine started knocking really really bad. I got home, let it run, opened the hood, and listened to whether it was top end, or bottom, because i knew if it was top, and i had to pull a few things apart, i could most likely isolate the problem and possibly fix it. It was bottom. Two months or so later, i got a job. Spent $1500 for an engine off ebay, and for R&R of the engine. It ran great! for about a day.. it started leaking oil again. Ok, now im like, what the hell... i call the guy up that did my r&r, (i find out now he's some jerkoff dead-beat, and this "shop" he claimed he had wasnt an official business. He told me that when i met him, to pick up my car, i had to sign this paper before i got the car back. I read it, prior to signing, and more often than not it refers to him not being responsible for improper installation. But i figure i sorta needed to get my car because it was with him for like 2 months before he even pulled my enginei) and tell him, dude, did you replace the rear main, he replies, "yes.. why?" i respond, "because it leaks oil, bad." he says "well uhh... i dont know what to tell you, if you pay me for time i'll take a look at it" and so forth, not claiming responsibility for the stupidity which he had caused. My car finally came to the point where it was leaking around a quart every 20 minutes, whether it was running, or not. Oil was practically pouring out of the oil pan, rear main, and so forth. One night, i wanted to take it for a cruise, so i went to my moms, even though by now, the entire car would vibrate extremely bad. I left it at my moms because i knew by now the oil was extremely dangerously low, and parked it. My bro, took the keys from her a few nights later, and took it for a cruise. Got about 6 houses down, and the engine seized, so he pushed it back. So now im stuck with a seized crank, or pistons. I'm 6'3 and about 155 lbs, i put a socket with a 2 foot long breaker bar, and pick myself up on it, and it doesnt budge. I figure replacing the crank is much much easier and cheaper than a complete engine replacement, or removal + installation of the pistons.

i hate to hear of people getting screwed, but now i would either swap a v-8, or do the 3.4 upgrade if its your daily driver. i would really try to do your research and do it yourself. there is enough info on this site you should be able to figure it out. its sad there are so many bad people out there. i dont take any vehicles in to be serviced anymore.
