400sbc with my TPI or LS1/4l60e swap???
I think i posted this earlier, but i can't find it. Anyhow, which would be more cost effective(cheaper), the 400sbc or the LS1? And number two...which would be an easier conversion? I have a 1992 Z28 with a 305/700r4
. I would use the TPI on the 400 or i will get a complete drop out unit of an LS1. The LS1 comes with tranny, computer, wiring, sensors, etc...
Give me your thoughts please! I want to start digging this month.

The TPI mods (read: Miniram) needed to feed a 400 would cost about as much as a used LS1. The LS1 is lighter and has more power potential.
So, which do you think would be more cost effective?
Ease of conversion - that depends upon what's easy to you and what's hard for you.

i think the 400 would be far easier...as it bascialy will drop in and line up with factory motor mounts. the tranny will work too so you dont need much else to do. tranny may want to be beefed up to handle a 406 tho.
ls1 wont simply bolt in, but the mods to adapt it aint bad if your somewhat a mechanic. cost wise it could be close to the same if not advantage ls1 if you find a good drop out for a good price.
but TPI on 406 is a waste. you'll need a hsr or similar...

Thanks for the replies. I was wondering if the TPI could match up to the 400,so thanks for clarifying.
BTW, what an HSR? I know, totoal NOOB

Holley Stealth Ram.
I thought about that, or the Super Ram. But, still major TPI mods that would be expensive to implement.

Also, i am somewhat mechanically inclined. I am just used to the old school. Like BB Olds and Buicks in Novas and chevy trucks and such. I just wanted my best bang for the buck since i am on a budget.
