LT1 into a '92 camaro

Is the LT1 a direct swap for a 305 TPI in a 1992 Camaro? Or altleast cheaper and easier than an LS1 swap? I know... have patience, just trying to figure out the best route.

Well the LT1 is not going to be a direct swap but somewhat cheaper than the LS1. With eather you are going to have to do some wiring,fulepump.....so on. If you are looking for a LT1 I dont know where you are at but I have one for sale w/LT4 hotcam wiring, comp, headers.PM me for more details.

physically, the LT1 is basically the same as a 305TPI. somebody correct me if i;m wrong, but the LS1 will require some modifications, such as motor mounts, tranny cross member, etc. i am also assuming that the accessory mounting holes will be a lot different.

the LT1 will swap a lot easier, and will require a lot less "custom" parts (--> $$).

So if i do go LT1, is that manifold better on performance than say...a Holley Stealth Ram? Thanks!

Not to be a smartass... but:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...questions.html

Really informative, should keep you occupied for hours.

I eventually decided that it probably wasnt worth my time unless I got a great deal on one due to comments here and there about the LT1 not being that great of a motor.

From what I gather things working against the swap are

1. keeping A/C
2. Electrical complexity and getting everything wired up
3. power steering
4. Fuel line locations

All of which can be dealt with as there are guys here who have done it... but it's things you'll have to contend with if you want to do the swap.

Intake manifolds depend on the engine somewhat. The LT1 stock intake is better than the stock TPI intake. A HSR would be better on a LT1 engine, but the HSR would have to be modified to fit, port-matched, etc. An edelbrook supervic single plane intake converted to fit LT1 and be fuel injected would be best. A different manifold for the LT1 isn't needed until the heads are heavily ported or aftermarket heads put on.
