Cross Breed........

Ok so i have a 1984 Camaro Berlinetta with the 2.8 v6........ ITS A SLUG!!

So i gets to thinking the other day... my dad had a 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass 4-door that he changed the engine in, He dropped in a basic stock Oldsmobile 350-Rocket out of a Delta 88, Any long story short with a little carb work he was pounding out low 12's at the track and could stomp almost any camaro or mustang that wanted to run.....

What i want to kno is if anybody has ever dropped an Olds motor into a Camaro and how would i go about doing such a thing..... I kno its cross breeding and im prolly gonna regret posting this, but if anyone wants to enlighten me PLEASE DO!!!!
Thanx

some ppl are whiney about putting a different division engine into the f bodies i dont knwo why,

the factory put in chevy engines in the firebirds, so whats the big deal ?

anyways it would be simple to put an olds or pontiac or buick or caddy engine into an f body you just need a tranny that has the BOP and caddy pattern and the BOP mounts and mounting brackets

simple

all bolt in using factory parts that are common everyday items

i would do it if i had another BOP or C engine laying around

i had a 425 caddy engine i thought about putting into the 82 t/a once, i should have done it, wish i had now

are some good torque monster engines, evne with the taller ratios like 2.73 and 2.56 and 2.21 that were commonly in those big old cars, and they would fly! so...

i say go for it, for sure, have a real good torque output engine, unlike most other ppl

i might just still do it to mine since i do hve a BOP caddy dual pattern with chevy pattern th350 trans i could use, if i can find another BOP or caddy engine again

id love to find a 403 olds or 455 olds again, in which ive had one of both in the past, both very strong runners also cant find any poncho v-8s around here, those are gone, none left heh and only the really old ones were good, the late 70s and up ones were crappy smogger peanut ports ones just like the chevies were ever since the mid 70s

dont let anyone tell you you shouldnt put anything but a sbc in it, they are just close minded whiners

good luck

I know there are outfits offering Pontiac into a 3rd gen engine mounts. I was under the impression that Olds mounts were different.

Exhaust would be total custom fabrication.

Maybe I'm just being a whiner, though. . .

("Because I have it" is probably the worst reason to put anything in a 3rd gen - or any other car, for that matter. You'd better be able to do better than that.)

They say money doesn't buy happiness, but the money spent for the happiness you get is a different matter.

A "free" engine can end up costing you more than putting in what fits. The frustration involved in getting something to fit in something it wasn't made for can make for a long time to get to the break-even point in the happiness department.

There's another poor reason for doing something - just to be different. Pretty low on the benefits/cost ratio.
