can i use vortec tbi on 350 crate target master
can i use vortec tbi on 350 crate target master
I have a 1972 chevy 350 target master motor, that Im wondering if a chevy 1988 305 throttle body intake will fit and work efficiently on. Iv'e already installed the intake and it is having problems running because it seems like its getting too much fuel. Will this setup work and if so, what all do i need to do to it? like some type of fuel adjustment or something?

Yes the 88 TBI intake will bolt up to the older style heads; you'll have to slot the 2 center bolt holes on the intake, is all. It also helps to get the right injectors. The ones off of a 350 TBI such as a truck or Caprice would likely work much better than the 305 ones, which are too small for a 350.
What does "Vortec" have to do with any of this?

I've done all that and it still seems like its missing! Runs terrible! 350 motor, 305 tbi intake, 350 tbi injectors, 350 tbi fuel regulator, brand new spark plugs, wires, rotary button and distributer cap all installed. Spark plugs are burnt and soaked with gas. Are you sure this swap will work, cause it acts like it is getting too much gas. Can i use this intake and use a regular distributer? If i switch it to carb, can i use the electric pump? Or if i use manual pump, what do i do? thanks!
hey, I'm in the process of doing the same swap. My engine runs at super fast idle and it seems lean to me. I used the tbi adapter plate with the original intake manifold (originally had a quadrajet on it). I've ordered a new chip from tbichips.com. I bought and installed the 350 injectors, and the 350 knock sensor. I still have to change the Electronic Spark Control. All of these changes are recommended by TBIchips.com. I suggest going to their page and reading the FAQ section. Apparently this is a very common swap.
From that page you need to change the injectors, knock sensor, ESC and the chip.
In answer to using the electric pump to go back to the carb, you'll need an inline regulator cause the electrip pump runs 11-13 psi or so and your carb can only handle around 5 psi.
I'm still waiting on my chip and ESC, but I'll let you know if i have success with this swap.
