ZZ4 Crate Motors

I was wondering if it would be feasable to put one of these in my Trans Am. It currently has 305 TPI. Could I bolt the TPI setup on this I know it does't flow that well at higher RPM's but a Stealth Ram won't fit under my hood I don't believe. I would love to do a LS1 swap but budget doesn't allow right now. So I thought one of these might work well.

Thanks

Yes it will work fine. People do it all the time.

In fact, it's the same long block, or arbitrarily close at least, to the Corvette version of the L98. It just has a different cam. All you'll have to do, as far as making it fit, is to elongate the center 2 intake bolt holes on each side. And, your EGR won't work, because the heads don't have the ports for it; which may or may not be an issue. Usually it's not. But if it is, you can get a kit to plumb EGR from the exhaust.

What year is your car? '86-'89 would pretty much be okay with the engine change, '90-'92 would need PROM changes.

You could get a Vette '86-1/2-up L98 TPI base. That would have the proper mount bolt angles and the EGR kit would fit it. Had a co-worker who did that with the ZZ4 crate.

The ZZ4 is made for a bit higher RPM than the L98 was. TPI hardware upgrades are in order to get the most out of it.

Car year is 86. So with all the enhancements to the TPI setup and some changes I would have to make plus the cost of the crate motor would it be better in the long run to just save a few more dollars and just do the LS1 swap. I can get a complete engine, transmission, ecm, and wiring harness I think the accessories come with it also from a place in Ohio for around $4000. The motor has around 50k on it. I know I could tune it much easier with an HP Tuner or LS1 edit program. I'm not sure what it would cost to install though.
