motor removel
Hey guys, ok so i think my old motor is ready to be taken out but i need help, the only thing i can think of thats stoping me is this. i have the motor mounts and the bell housing bolt left. when i take them out i can start taking out the motor right? i know i need to undo the tq/converter but can i do that after the motors out right? or am i wrong.
----------
one more thing, do i need to jack up the transmission or will the cross member do just fine?

you will need to put something under the tranny pan to support the tranny so it wont fall out
the crossmember for it is only under the tailshaft of it
the engine is what holds up most all of the entire tranny
you really would be better off pulling the tranny with the engine
unbolt the tranny mount and unbolt the TQ arm mount clamp, disconnect linkage and cable and wiring plug and pull it with the engine
its easier imho
good luck

I would strongly suggest you unbolt the torque converter besides being a whole lot easier it prevents the possibility of damage to the input shaft and seal not to mention the pump bushings. You will also want to support the trans with something while it will hang in place, supporting it will take a lot of stress off of the mount and tail of the trans and it will make pulling the old motor out and dropping the new motor in al lot less hassle.

i'm in the middle of puting my new motor back in fight now, i just pulled the motor and left the trans in the car. when i did it i kept the converter attached to the motor. you do need to support the trans, a couple of 2x4's will do, but when we removed mine we removed the tranny dipstick so atf ended up all over. and also when you go to put your other motor back in put the tranny dipstick back in first. (i didn't do it untill after i bolted the motor back in and all, and let me tell you i thought i was gonna have to pull the motor back out, i took hours to get that thing back in.) over all if you have everything unbloted just lift it up and out just make sure you keep checking for any connections you missed
