oil pump prime question

I just put my new motor together and while priming the oil pump the drill has alot of trouble turning the pump. It works oil comes up thrugh the push rods but the pump is hard to turn it just dosen't seem right to me but I starting to think maybe its ok and I'm just being too carfull. I've only built two engines so I'd like to see what someone more experienced than me thinks about it. The pump is a brand new Moroso high volume pump and I'm useing a Dewalt 14.4volt drill. I also put a bottle of GM EOS in with the oil. maybe thats to thick for the pump. Whats gong on.

you're trying to use a cordless drill to prime your oil system? Holy cow, i'm surprised it did anything at all. Normally people use heavy duty drills, and it still burns out the motor.

Don't worry about it, especially a high volume pump, it's hard to spin. You're at a completely normal place. Most people don't even prime it, since the SBC has a submerged pump.

That's about right. Oil doesn't pump for free, especially with a HV pump.

There is no need to prime as long as you use alot of assembly lube on all moving parts.

on all moving parts as in the entire motor.. but you would still want to prime it to get oil in the valvetrain.. and so your motor doesnt have to run with no oil in the galleys.. its just a good safety precaution
