need your opinion

I have the opportunity to buy a 396. The block has been fluxed and bored .30 over. Comes with all stock internals (engine is apart). Needs new bearings. Engine comes complete with everything except pistons. Also comes with 2x4 intake and 2 holley 660s. The guy wants 700. Good deal? I plan on possibly droppin it in my 86 bird.

Re: need your opinion

depends on how much you can spend

what about camshaft and valvetrain. valve guides, springs, etc

what about exhaust

its all gonna add up, gonna have a big chunk of change into it, if you spent that on an engine that will alot more easily go into the car( a 350 for example) then you could save trouble and have a heck of a strong running engine

and besides you could get a bigger engine for less(454) but in stock form none of them are spectacular as far as power ratings go

i know where a 454 is right now i could get for half that if i wanted, but i dunno,

lots to consider here

i guess it depends on what you want

just my $.02

good luck

Re: need your opinion

If you think it's a good deal and you could make money on it, then buy it. Then, sell that stuff and you'll have a bigger budget for 3rd gen stuff...

BBC swaps are a little pricey once you get all of the "odds and ends" figured up.

I think a 400 small block is a better budget build for your car because all of the small block accessories are more easily adapted along with exhaust...
