Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
Your questions are really open-ended. There isn't a mountaintop in the world you could go to to get a definitive answer. But, there are some generalities.
On the TBI forum is a sticky about a "budget" 350 build. Look that over and see what you think.
You don't "have" to replace the T5. But, if you don't take it easy on it, you will "need" a different transmission, guaranteed. But, there are members who have gotten T5's to live behind some pretty stout engines just by not doing clutch dumps or speed shifting. If you want to do those kinds of things, you need a better transmission.

Re: need help
Welcome to the boards.
You looking to know the best crate 350? Or 350 that you can find in a salvage yard?
Yes you can keep the same transmission if you wish. If it is stock then you would have a world class T-5 but a 350 will eventually tear it up.
