BBC Hood clearance

BBC owners, what intake, carb, spacers, etc.. are you running? What hood, cowl, how tall? What size air cleaner?

Just trying to get an idea before mine gets droped in.

Re: BBC Hood clearance

I have had a performer rpm and 850 demon with a moroso drop base 3 inch filter under a three inch cowl hood, also a Team G fit in the same space.
Currently I have a glastek 4.5 inch cowl and a dart 4500 intake with a king demon...I have not found a filter to fit it yet, I`m thinking the UNI dominator is my only chance, I have about 1.5-1.75 inches above the air-horn.

Re: BBC Hood clearance

A guy by the name of chev496 said he uses a (low profile?) Victor Jr. and a drop base filter. He said it cleared under his hood. He implied it was a stock hood but didnt actually say it so im not sure.

The lower the intake, the more you limit your high rpm Hp basically.

Re: BBC Hood clearance

And a street car doesn't need to go above 5000 rpm. A race car will spin up to at least 6800 rpm to make the most of it's power. A street engine, although it may occasionally spin that high, normally operates well below 5000. An intake that starts to build power at 3000+ rpm isn't a good street intake. A low profile, dual plane intake is a better street intake or even an occasional street/strip.

Re: BBC Hood clearance

I agree. I love low end torque. I thought of the idea of a 427 bbc under the hood of my car just for all the low end torque I'd have. As long as I could squeeze it under no more than a 2" cowl.

I only ever drive on the street anyway, with maybe a few nights at the strip, and I think a 450 HP 427 would be alot more fun than a 450Hp 383. Though I'm sure a 450 Hp 383 would still be pretty damn fun.

Re: BBC Hood clearance

Thanks, I have a Victor 454 O coming, 1050 dominator. Have a Jongblod Hood. Nitrous plate. Doubt I will be able to fit a conventional filter on it. I have a couple flat K$N's I might try to make work in the hood, somehow..

Re: BBC Hood clearance

LSA is 112*. It idles very smooth. Big cams like this don't need a small LSA angle. ProStock cams are usually 114*
