I currently have a 1986 camaro with a 2.8 v6 and an automatic. A friend of mine has an 1988 camaro with a 2.8 v6 and a manual. Well recently his engine took a digger, and no longer runs. So he is offering to sell me his car for cheap, it is in much better shape then mine, except for the engine, in which my engine is actualy a one year old rebuilt with 2 more years left on the warranty, and running strong. I just want to know if i could swap the engines, if they are compatible, and also how hard it would be to do it my self. Also if you have any links to step by step instructions on how to do it, i am somewhat inexperienced, but i have relatives and friends that are not, and would be willing to help. Thanks.

Haven't seen a lot of information on a v6 to v6 swap, but it should be pretty straight forward. Almost a matter of simply unbolting the old and bolting in the new. I'm not sure about the electronics, but I would imagine they would be about the same between the 2 cars.

Above I said "almost" because you'll have to allow for a little extra work because the 2 trannys are different. But it would be fairly easy to switch parts around to get it to work. I assume from your post you will be using your friends car with it's current transmission setup and just dropping in your engine? In that case, all you should have to do is remove the auto trans stuff (flexplate, torque converter) and bolt on the flywheel, clutch assembly, and bellhousing from the manual. Everything else should be the same IF both cars have the same type of fuel injection.

And add a pilot bearing.
