Displacement on Demand (Chevy's version of Cadillac's Northstar)
Has anyone thought of doing a swap with one of the newer chevy motors that runs the displacement on demand or even maybe used a cadillac motor with the Northstar System on it? You know, the engines that shut the cylinders off when it senses it doesn't need them. I think I could really handle 300hp and 30mph on the highway.

i think the hardest part would be getting the ECU to work. Especially with the caddy motors because of all the other crap that the ECU has in it for nav, and climate control.

A good LS1 with a 6-speed and 3.23 gears will get close to this on the highway.
I just checked mine again for fun with the LT1 and got 22 running the **** out of it around town, shifting at 3500-4000 rpm with 3.70 gears. If I baby it around shifting slow, I can get up near 25-26 on the highway.

Sure, it'll run me the cost of the gears now but over the summer I'll probably make up the difference in the cost of gas.

I'm pretty sure it can be done. there are various companies out there that you can send your donor engine's computer to, and they'll disable/modify systems that need to be disabled/modified for your swap application.
Here's a link to an article that speaks to swapping 3rd/4th gen Chevy engines into classic trucks:
http://www.classicperform.com/tech_a...ngine-Swap.htm
In there, it speaks to sending your computer off to get it modified. This article doesn't speak specifically to displacement-on-demand, but if you contact one of the companies that does these mods, you could probably find out pretty quickly.
