Another 3.8 SFI Turbo Swap...

Well, I've been working on this car for the past 3 months (planning, waiting, building, installing.) It's finally starting to come together. Back in January, I bought the 87 GN engine, harness, accessory drive, some goodies, as well as 80% of whats needed to do the swap for a mere $800.

I tore it down and realized that it needed rebuilt.(was gonna do it anyways) So I seeked advice from the Buick Boards. I have seen many Turbo Regals w/ similar setups running 11.4-12.0's. Here is the recipe:

.030" Bore, decked, align honed "109" block(ARP Studs)
reconditioned stock rods(ARP Bolts)
.020/.020 stock crank
.030" TRW Forged Pistons(8.0:1)
Stock 8445 Heads torqued w/ ARP Bolts(Resurfaced, Valve Job)
Erson 208/208 Flat Tappet cam & Springs(came w/ engine)
Stock Lower intake, Kenne Bell 70mm upper plenum w/ 70mm KB Throttle Body
Precision Turbo TE-44 .63ex (3" in, 2.5 out)
#55 Siemens/Deka injectors (w/ low impedance modded ECM)
Scanmaster 2.1
Stock GN intercooler
TurboTweak 93 Street Chip
Custom 3" Downpipe w/ HKS External Wastegate(Made to fit F-body w/ Buick Heads!!!
Manual Boost controller(soon to be mounted in the console)
TH400 2WD Truck Trans(was mated to a BBC) was told it has a low 1st gear
Fuddle Racing 3200 Stall Torque Converter (2.0 STR)
Spohn TH400 Swap Crossmember
Spohn Adjustable torque arm
AutoMeter 30lb boost gauge & Trans Temp gauge
2001 T/A WS6 rear axle, suspension(3.23/G80)

I'll be adding some pictures a in a little bit. I am currently manipulating the wiring harness as well as doing fuel lines, oil lines(trans & turbo). I am getting a custom Driveshaft made which is an arm and leg. Once I get this running, I'll enjoy it for a bit and then get the Alky kit for it as well as a Alky chip or a Race chip & start tuning some more.

It is alot further along than those pics, I have the radiator installed, Intercooler, piping, accessories, vaccum lines, etc. I'll post some pics of that when I can upload them on my PC.

I would change to vin code "C" or "3" fwd heads from a bonneville or a delta 88 from 87-89. These heads are what the TTA used and they fit against the A/C box better as well.

I am using a 1LE AC Delete box. I already have the buick headed 3.8 in the car, a custom downpipe. Everything fits perfectly, 10x easier to work on than the old 3.1L as well as the LS1 in my 98 Formula!!!
