YET ANOTHER SWAP...

sorry for another post about this topic but have been ******* over posts and posts and still have unanswered questions.

have an 88 305 tpi and plan to swap a 350 possible t10 or t56.

ill start first with trans.- before putting up on blocks my t5 would pop out of 2nd and grind into gears on occasion. have read up about possible problems id be having but i think i would be better off just getting a new transmission than wasting money rebuilding..opinions?

also any pros or cons to which transmission? (plan on hosting mid 300's hp)

now engine..
-so ive read, theres not much difference between the 305 and 350 blocks (correct me if im wrong), but would i need new mounts or would 350 bolt right up to the 305 mounts?

-also any input on where to start for engine? budget-ish being in highschool and all, but rather save up and have it on blocks till next summer and "do it right" for a year than bolt on some headers and a cheesy exhaust

so many questions but will stop there for now, thanks for any responses guys

-a teen in need

As long as the 350 isn't LT1 or LSx, the mounts are the same. Some difference in details like dipstick location, rear main seal (and therefore flywheel) type, that's about it. 305 TPI heads are better than 90% of factory 350 heads you'll find out there.

T10 vs. T56? Both strong; T56 has overdrive, better on gas; probably neither belong in the same sentence with "high school budget".

Re: YET ANOTHER SWAP...

hi there nothing differs externally

the chevy 305 and 350 are same stroke

different bore though

all the external parts are identical

this is what makes it virtually impossible to tell a chevy 350 from a chevy 265, 267, 283, 302, 305, 307, or 327 just by looking at it and not looking up the casting or stamping codes on it

the engine mounts are same for all the v8 engines regardless of size, same bolt pattern and everything, big block mounts were same too, the large style later ones anyways

the tranny not staying in a gear can be input or clutch problem

happy swapping/converting
