Fuel line/pump questions
I'm swapping the stock 2.8 for a 5.0. the v8 came out of an 85 caprice, and the fuel pump mounts to the block instead of the gas tank.
the fuel pump on the car now is mounted to the tank (at least i think so).
a) is there some way i need to jerryrig the line to get the pump out but still have it connect? since the pump on the v8 will be sucking from the tank instead of pushing, will the pump that's in there impede the flow at all?
b) since the bare fuel line slides (with a clamp) onto the v8's pump, do I need to replace the line itself? If so, which car would i want to order the line for.
thanks,
Tony

Re: Fuel line/pump questions
Your 84 should have had a mechanical fuel pump for the 2.8 so you should be okay just hooking up your supply and return lines to the V8 pump. There should not be a pump inside your tank.

The V6 lines end up on the driver's side of the engine. The V8 pump will be on the passenger side of the engine.
Having been in the same boat, I figured the easiest solution was to route the supply and return lines across the front of the crossmember. I used some 1/4" push-in tie wrap mounts to hold the lines in place. I used 3/8" aluminum line for the supply, attached at each end with short rubber hose clamped on, and 5/16" for the return line.
I'm not completely sure what fuel pump the Caprice used, but would recommend you get one for a 3rd gen ('84 305 application would be fine for the reference when you go to the parts store to get one). The 3rd gen pump has the return line, which is a nice feature to have for preventing vapor lock.
