305-350 swap
I'm in the process of putting in a 350 -non emissions- into my 82 ta. what do I need for wiring? do I just diconnect my ECM and plug n play or do my gauges run off my ECM? also where exactly is my ECM? thanks for the help.

There is a tech article linked from the thirdgen.org homepage that discusses removing EFI and installing carb.
The ECM is located in the dash above the passenger's feet. You don't have to remove it to go to carb. You also don't have to cut any wires to go to carb.

Re: 305-350 swap
sorry, I should have mentioned I had the lg4 so it was carb not cfi. but I took off all the emissions so i'm needing just the essential wiring. i'll look up the post as well.

What do you mean by "non-emissions"? The computer controlled carb is a very good street performance system. About anything you put on would be a downgrade.

Re: 305-350 swap
by non emissions I mean I'm taking off the smog pump, egr valve, basically everything that the stock motor had on it i'm taking off. I'm putting in a mild street 350 about 375 HP and putting on "off road" headers on. I want to keep it clean and simple. there were alot of parts (not sure the names) that were old and not functioning, like the valve in the exhaust manifold that works on vacuum, it was stuck and so on.

I would suggest that you retain the computer controlled carb. The things you mentioned aren't necessary for them. You will need the sensors that are on the engine - coolant temp sensor in the thermostat housing, O2 in the driver's side exhaust, and the carb and distributor; and those on the firewall - barometric pressure sensor and manifold vacuum sensor.
It'll easily support 375 HP. After the racing season is over, my CC carb is going back on (went with double pumper spreadbore until I can figure out how to make the q-jet secondaries open my consistently).
