Temp Gauge and Oil Gauge

I attempted my first swap from a V6 FI to a V8 carb 350 GMPP crate on a 89 Camaro RS. It was pretty smooth but I want to get my stock gauges to work properly. My temp and oil gauge seems to have the incorrect reading. I have a radiator cap with a temp gauge and it will read 180 but the temp gauge in the car reads 240. It definitely isn't running at 240. The oil pressure is pinned over 80. I got the auto store to get a temp and oil switches from a 305 from around that year that fit so I don't know if thats the issue. It is a crate motor and from my understanding, they really don't have a set year. I figured they would be close to the same. Does someone have the Ohms reading on temperatures and oil pressures or have any good ideas? Thanks.

Re: Temp Gauge and Oil Gauge

You did the right thing by purchasing the sending units from a 305 car. If you put them in that will fix the oil and water temp issue. Your tach should be off as well because of the difference in the addition of two cylinders.

Cheers!!!

You need the senders that match the gauges, not the engine. The temperature sender will probably be the same for a V6 and a V8, but not the oil pressure sender, I think.

Re: Temp Gauge and Oil Gauge

use the senders from the v6 unless the 305's give the same reading. I did duel sender in a tpi swap to get my jeeps gauges to work but i wont know if the tpi sender's go bad unless the light comes on

That makes a lot sense I was thinking the wrong way. The V6 sensor fits in the manifold but I'm still seeing a high temp. I'm guessing now that it is actually running at that temp. I got to get an aftermarket gauge to check the accuracy. I got to think of something for the oil pressure sender. I removed the V6 3 wire sender connector from the wiring harness so I have to find it in my pile of wires/connectors from the FI set up. I am using the one wire sender for my gauge which is giving me the incorrect high oil pressure reading.

Does anyone have the wiring diagrams for the 3 wire connector? Thanks.
