Hi, though I haven't done a swap, I've read that you can use any motor for a Firebird or Camaro, from your year on up, as long as all emissions equipment is there. And I believe you have to go to a "smog referee" and get a special sticker for it. LS1 and T56, drop 'em in!!!

there was a post where someone did this with the ls1. had to use the stock ls1 cats which reqired cutting them off and rewelding them at a slight angle or rotation? anyway every smog item had to be there and he even had to install the stock camaro airbox. fuel tank ect. makes you wonder if you would do better setting it up as a gto since the airbox might fit better

Any engine available in your series of car from your year or newer. That means any Firebird engine from 89 or newer.
Whatever engine you use, you must use the ENTIRE emission control system from that car. Then you have to go to a smog referee and get certified. The smog referee will then put a sticker on your car telling the smog tester to test your car at the newer standard for your engine.
Skip all of that PIA stuff and stick a 3.4 long block in your car from a newer f body. DON'T TELL ANYBODY AND JUST LET THE GUY TEST YOU!!!
You will pass if the engine is in good tune.
