Quick Big Block Question
I've been doing a lot of research on this, and know of all of the changes, and reinforcements I will need to make to the car. I have stumbled across a big block for very cheap, but it is a 427 Tall deck block out of a truck, I was wondering if this change in deck height would make exhaust fitment any different or more complicated before I start with the swap. Thanks in advance for your help

Re: Quick Big Block Question
You'll need custom headers. The tall deck moves the heads .400" higher on the block. This moves the headers higher and they already hit the underside of the front frame rails and floor depending what headers you use.
You'll probably also have clearance issues with the heater box and wiper motor because the heads sit higher.
You'll need a tall deck intake or a short deck intake with spacers.
The 427T has potential to be a good race engine but isn't an easy fit into a third gen.

Re: Quick Big Block Question
The heater box and windshield wipers are gone, so they wont be an issue, This is going to see limited street duty too, so It's not going to be a race only unit. Thanks for the help so far, I'm new to the big block world, I've only really worked with small blocks in the past. Minus a couple old worn 454's in work trucks.

Re: Quick Big Block Question
The only thing usable on the 427T is the block and crank. You need to replace everything else. The increased deck height is because the tall deck blocks use a piston with an extra compression ring. To use an automotive piston, you'll need new con rods to make up the difference in pin location. Pushrods are also .400" longer. The heads will have no performance potential at all. The water pump and thermostat housing are not designed for a car.

Re: Quick Big Block Question
thanks for your help, do you have any good suggestions for a budget head, even stock iron stuff, otherwise a good aftermarket head, I'm wanting to go mid 11's in the quarter, if possible without spending a fortune to get there.

Re: Quick Big Block Question
Stock iron 781 or 049 oval port castings are good. Mild port and polish and bigger valves work well.
