Re: bbc hooker headers

As I mention in other posts, Hooker are the cheapest swap headers and the worst fitting.

Back when I first used them in my BBC swap, I had a 7 quart pan. It took me 9 hours to finally get them installed.

I now use large tube Ed quay headers. Each tube is separate and they use a slip on collector. It took a bit to install them the first time because of clearance issues with the large tubes but now I can take them off in about 1/2 an hour. Putting them back in is a little more tricky because you need to know which tube to install first. Still a lot easier than the Hookers.

Hooker swap headers are less than $400. Any high quality swap header, expect to pay $1000+.

Re: bbc hooker headers

Not from Hooker. The Supercomp headers are a BBC street header. With the 1-7/8" primaries and 3" collectors, they're not very good for anything bigger than a mild 454. As you go up in tube size, the cost of the headers drastically increases also.

My headers have 2-1/4" tubes and yes they are a very tight fit and they have 4" collectors. I run a dual 4" exhaust through Magnaflow race mufflers which exit in front of the rear wheels. It's a race only exhaust system.

The best fitting headers are custom built. One set specifically built to fit your engine and chassis.

Re: bbc hooker headers

i know this is a really old post however i was wondering if the hooker headers would be ok for a 396 bored 30 over with an 8-71 roots blower? This will be a street car and see the strip a few times just for kicks.

Re: bbc hooker headers

With the added boost from the big blower, I'd say the headers will probably be too small.

Re: bbc hooker headers

I set my bbc in for fitment before paint, the headers were tricky(hookers) set them in then set the engine into them i found this to be the only way. I just ordered a PA Racing K-member hoping that will make it a little easier. My bbc (468) isnt a blower motor, its about 13:1 compression. Any opinions on tube size, should I sell and go bigger? hookers are 1-7/8

Re: bbc hooker headers

My Ed Quay driver side slides in from the bottom no problem. The passenger side is sectioned but goes in just as easily from the bottom too. These are 2 1/4 stepped to 2 3/8ths

Re: bbc hooker headers

I've had my 454 out about 5 times since the hookers. Me and my friend have gotten pretty proficient at it lol. You just gotta learn the order of removal. That tubular K member helped alot too.

Re: bbc hooker headers

There's a large tube header set with collector mufflers currently available on Ebay. Price is very reasonable considering what you're bidding on. Search for camaro bbc headers. If I didn't already have a large tube header, I would have bought them.
