fuel pump difference

i am doing a swap in my 88 camaro( 2.8 V6) to a tpi 350. The engine came out of a 92 interceptor but i am getting the tpi setup from an 89 gta. first off i was wondering if this would cause any problems. Also will the fuel pump from the V6 tank work for the V8.

I figured there are many people out there who have done these swaps and am lookin for some pointers before i run into any brick walls.

You should drop the tank and install a TPI or upgrade fuel pump.

Unless it's already been replaced with one. Some parts chains use TPI pumps for all applications since it will work whether TPI, TBI, or MPFI, but the odds of that being the case aren't in your favor.

Re: fuel pump difference

is this a swap of the whole pump assembly or just aprt of it, like a regulator or something

also if i was to try and run a 350 with my current pump would i be able to get it to fire just to make sure that the engine runs?

The pump is installed in a bracket that installs from the top of the tank. It includes the fuel level sender for the fuel gage. The pump is just a small cylinder mounted within this bracket assembly (typically called the "pick-up"). If you go to the Carburetor forum and look at the stickies in the top section of that forum, you'll see one about converting from in-tank pump to no pump. It has a picture of the pump mounted in the pick-up.

The regulator is on the engine from the factory. You'll have to buy a return-style regulator such as the Mallory 4309 if you use the in-tank electric pump.

The V6 pump, if it works, will be fine for firing up the engine to see if it runs. Just don't try that before you have the regulator.

Re: fuel pump difference

Umm the reguator is a return style on the tpi he is swaping in as long as he is getting all the parts. I am not sure what pressure the v6 pump is capable of but you need pretty high presure for a tpi to run. So I don't know if it would fire on your existing pump.

I was answering questions about a carb swap in another thread, and got the two mixed up.

Right, the regulator is part of the TPI system.
