LS1 3rd Gen. Fuel setup leak, do i really need the fuel return line?

OK so I'm finishing up my LS1 swap in my 86 Firebird. But the Fuel setup I ordered from F-Body motorsports doesn't work (nothing does from them!) Ok so the stainless braided fuel line that comes out the fuel pressure regulator that has a adaptor to connect into the fuel rail, has a little plastic clip in it. And that little plastic clip is the problem. It doesn't hold 58psi well and sprays out when the fuel pump is priming or the car is running, and I mean major leakage!
So my question is do I still have to matain the fuel return line to the tank? Would that case any problems or flooding? The LS1 after '97 didn't have the return line going into the fuel rail or to the engine bay that I'm aware of so should I still have to use a return line on the car? If not this would help alot! I've bought several new plastics clips, 8 to be exact, and they all leak! Tried a little O-ring, still leaks. Then tried sealant in the fitting around the plastic clip, but still leaking. If I do not need to have the fuel return line I was just going to run a fuel pressure hose from the fuel line to the rail. Any problems? Do I need the fuel return line?
Thanks, any help??? Anyone gone through this??? Fuel return line need to be used on LS1???
