Enigne Stats

Does anyone have info on the hp and torgue ratings for the 454 chevy and the 455 pontiac? and which were the best years for them? i know the pontiacs started to decline in hp in the later 70`s. also. would a munic 4 speed be able to take the power or would i have to use a 5 or 6 speed?

everything declined in the 70s. EIther engine if it comes from a 74 or so, or later, is going to be dog *** slow.

so you mean go for things before the 70's??

Go for any year you want, just don't re-use any of the parts that made it slow in those years.

um. such as? i didnt know it was just parts that made it slow. is there one or two years that were better stock then the others??

An engine is all just parts, really. Through the 70s engines came with low compression, low flow heads and lazy cams to meet emissions standards before the introduction of computer control. The short blocks stayed largely the same, so it doesn't matter what year you get.
