Using chain fall?
What do you guys think about this? I Have to pull a engine out of my car, it's a 2.8l FI. Uncle says he has a 1 ton chain fall and it should do the job.

Awesome. Okay so since the only place it would be posible to do this is in my garage I have another question. I do have beams in the in my garage. Would it be possible to hook the chain fall around that or should I take another alternative?

Well I picked up the chain hoist and then I became stumped. I thought now what in the heck am I gonna hook this too? No pipes in my garage anywhere, you look up and all you see is wood beams everywhere. So I thought theres gotta be a way you can hook this to them somehow. Yahoo images is a powerful thing.

Re: Using chain fall?
Normally i wouldnt do it in a garage with pre fab trusses. You can though. You need a really long large diameter post. a 4x4 would probably work for a 2.8 ok. You need to get it as long as you can so it goes across as many rafters as you can. This will distribute the load. We had a similar setup in my uncles old garage when I was a kid and we pulled everything with it. It'll work ok. However, it should be noted that you will pay a good price for a long 4x4. Not a whole lot, but not cheap. You should think about saving for a cheap cherry picker. You can get a cheap, but sufficient one for around 125-140 dollars.
