how much can $2000 accomplish?
at the end of the year i planned on getting more horsepwer. right now i have an 85 iroc z tuneport 305 with the thermomaster chip. i know the 305 is crap or is it? i want to acheive atleast 350hp buti really want 400hp and really like the idea of staying fuel injected. think of 94 350, vette motor, don't really want to do it, but if i have to due to budget i'll go carb. but anybody know what can be done with this amount of money?

Unless you get a really, really sweet deal on an LT1, $2000 isn't going to do it.
You could improve the 305 a lot. It isn't "crap", but 350 HP, especially with TPI, isn't reasonable.
Before any practical recommendations can be made, one question needs an answer: Emissions testing or inspection?
Since you mentioned carb, it would seem you don't have emissions concerns. But, $2k really isn't going to get you very far, since exhaust upgrades are the #1 "must-do", and that will run you at least $500 for a streetable system.
Exhaust, cam, and TPI upgrades, which will most likely necessitate transmission upgrades, would basically eat up your budget. 275 HP is about the best you could expect for a streetable TPI set-up. With carb, you could spend less, get a little more power, but you'll sacrifice some economy and probably driveability.
Double your budget, and a 400 HP LT1 is more reasonable.
