350 swap questions
350 swap questions
Sorry if this has been discussed a lot, I did a search and didnt find any answers that answered my questions. This is my first swap so I have a few questions. I found a 350 from a 80's pick up used. Was carborated, doesnt include the front accessaries (water pump, fuel pump, alt ect.) I have a 88 firebird formula with the 305 and tpi. The car is a 5 speed. What will I need to do this swap? Will all my tpi stuff and accessaries bolt up?

Re: 350 swap questions
All the accessaries will, the intake will need a couple holes elongated if it is '86 or older. You will need a chip (or entire compter) from a 350, and the injectors. I don't remember on the oil pan, but i think it should clear. The tranny may be short-lived though. I have always had bad luck with t-5's, but never had one behind a stock engine.
I may be missing something here, but I hope it helps.... I still like carbs, and don't want to switch.

If the truck was '85 or earlier, it will have a 2-piece rear main seal, which uses a different flywheel than you have. You need one for '83-'85 f-body V8 T5 application for that engine and your transmission.
Re: 350 swap questions
The offer I had on the 350 was $300.00, not including a carb, accessaries, intake ect. I have a offer for a rebuilt 400 small block out of a 71 firebird with a cam for $100.00. Since I'll probably have to put the same amount of work to get either one to fit im going to go with the cheaper/more powerful 400.

Before you commit to that, you might want to check out the "Pontiac V8 swap" sticky in the top section of this forum.
