2.8 to 305 camaro

I picked up a parts car with a 305 short block for 50 bucks and got heads for it for free from a buddy i need to finish porting and polishing. If i use a tublar k member can i run long tube headers and have no problem? Im notgoing to lie, im trying to get the car to lift up once im done with the motor.

You can use long tube headers with a stock "K" member.

What exactly do you mean by "lift up"?

Re: 2.8 to 305 camaro

i heard there were fittment issues when using long tubes. i want to be able to lift the front tires alittle bit off the ground. Just because i want and to show off when i race my friends mustang and beat him.

Lifting the front wheels doesn't make you faster.

Unless you dump a lot of weight off the front end and transfer it to the rear, the likelihood of a 305 lifting the tires is slim.

Re: 2.8 to 305 camaro

i know it doesnt make it faster but it would hep rub it in my friends face a little more when we race. he hates chevys and is strictly ford only type of guy.

Re: 2.8 to 305 camaro

I don't think that cam, or most likely any cam is going to get that 305 to carry the front tires with out a bad *** power adder such as a turbo or super charger. MOST, of the cars I see doing wheel stands have cars with enough power to be in the 10s or better. To put that in perspective a 3600 pound car with driver needs around 535 RWHP to run 10.99 at 123MPH according to the ET calculator. Even if you did build a 305 with enough power to carry the fronts for any distance the car will actually have to hook which is going to mean lots of suspension work and at least drag radials. Then when the car hooks behind that much horsepower you are going to start dropping drivetrain parts all over the track if you don't upgrade just about everything behind the motor all the way through the axle shafts. I don't think any amount of suspension work will make a combo with that kind of power hook on the street.

Just my 2 cents

Re: 2.8 to 305 camaro

Thats such an old cam... you'd do much better with a newer design. Check out Comp Cams XE cams. The XE262 works really well in smaller SBC like the 305. Lots of power and torque, sounds good, decent mileage and good driveability and plenty of vacuum for accessories. I use their XE274 in my 350 and its awesome!
