Question about putting new 383 in my 87 camaro
hey guys i recently just swapped out my old engine with a blueprint 383 engine engine clams it will put out 405 hp and 450 tq
After getting it in i was very excited until someone brought something to mind i didnt even think about... i pretty much just doubled the power going to the wheels and they warned me about breaking my rear end. I was wondering if i really should be worried? i really dont have the money to replace the rear end.. im pretty sure it was the stock rear end that came on the 87 z28.
the tires on there arent very sticking i used to get them to spin with the old 350 i had in there. if anyone could help me out with some ideas, input and advice i would be so very grateful!
oh i forgot this car isnt running at the moment.. im still working on rewiring it and getting all of the interior replaced. so i dont know if it can handle it.. and im worried that once im done getting this beaut up and running im just going to destroy it! lol
ty in advance!

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
Eventually the rear will break, as they aren't very strong. Spinning the tires doesn't guarantee anything, because spin is usually accompanied by bounce, and bounce will shock the gears/axle, which is death to hardened parts.
The later 28-spline axles are better. There's a tech article linked from the thirdgen.org homepage that documents how to make you rear a little stronger.
