Help id'ing my new replacement engine
Help id'ing my new replacement engine
I recently purchased a rough (no dash, bad body) '86 IROC-Z28 with a swapped out "327" with all of the goodies. I plan on swapping the engine into my '88 v6 t-5.
I say "327" because that is what I was told it was. I tried to check the casting # and engine Id but the id on my block is not on any sites that I can find.
The engine casting number is 3970010 (which i have read can be either a 302, 327, or 350).
The engine id numbers on the front of the block are V726TDT and C8U225919.
Will someone help me out or give me a link that actually has my id suffix listed?
Any information will ne appreciated.

The 2nd number is from the VIN of the vehicle it came from.
The first number: http://www.nastyz28.com/chevy-engine-code-stampings.php
"V" = Flint engine plant. "726" = July 26th. "TDT" = 1980 California light duty truck 350 - you know, the 155 HP wonder.
You've been lied to, but how surprised are you at that? In this case, I'd say it's a lie in the right direction.
Of course, that's just the block. It could have a large-journal 3.25" stroke crank in it, in which case it is now a 327.
More important is what heads are on it. Pull a valve cover and get the head casting #'s.
