v8 to v6
I have an '89 camaro with a shot 305 in it and a T5 manual. I want to put the 3.1 v6 in its place. I wanted to know what is different and the same. I know I need the computer and all attached wires from the v6 but are there any commonly forgotten wires usually left out. Does the manual have a removable bellhousing. Anything in the car, like the fuse box, that needs to be changed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

youll prolly need a v6 tranny and pretty much everything like ecu and all harness and such. Why do you want a 6 in stead of a 8???

Re: v8 to v6
I already have a camaro with a v8 so I thought of putting a v6 in the other for the efficency. 3800 would be too far beyond my scope/time limit but instead of a 3.1 what about a 4.3?

If you change to a V6, I'd second the 3800 idea - find one out of a 4thgen and then you'd be set. Same-ish mileage as the 3rdgen V6s, but twice the power and just an overall better engine. I wonder if the supercharger from the GTP would work too....?

The eaton M90 from the GTP can be made to fit, but the biggest difficulty would be the elbow for the intake that faces the rear of the engine.
If you really got determined to use a stock 3800 blower, you could always order an Australian M90 with the elbow that's set up for their rear wheel drive cars! They know it as the 3.8L ecotec motor.
The best 3800 option though, as far as forced induction goes, is turbo. There's a guy running 8s with a 3800 series II twin turbo in a 4th gen Firebird, and there are several guys running over 500RWHP on that engine.
The 4.3L shares alot of internals with the 350, but as far as power and gas mileage goes, it's a dog. If you want a truck motor and want to stay 6 cylinder, do an LL8 inline 6 from an Trailblazer. 291HP stock for 05+ out of that 4200 Vortec. That'd be an animal in a 3rd gen!
