i have a great deal on a 5.3L out of a early model avalanche. has anyone done this? or attempted this? i know it should be roughly the same as an ls1 swap as far as basic parts but what about it being a truck motor? will it work and what mods will i need im out to make somethign unique and i figured this was not a common swap so if anyone has any idea or info on this it will be greatly appreciated thanks

Chevyowner02 - Thanks for the link I gotta admit, i love seeing links to my threads

Chevyman, Ive got a '03 5.3L in my '89 iroc. (For now, LS1 going in this winter, but it will retain truck engine management)

Its roughly the same, but their are some differences. I had a complete intake to pan pull out from a silverado, with the engine management, electronic throttle etc.

Here's what i had to purchace for it to fit & Why:
-LS1/LS6 intake - Truck intake will poke through the hood
-F-body or Vette ACC Setup - Truck Alternator hits hood, truck waterpump interferes with LS1 intake
-LS1 F-body Pan - truck pan hangs about 3" Below k-member
-LS1 F-body Motor mounts - I used my own version of Spohn mounts, which require f-body clamshell mounts, the truck mounts simply wont work.
-Custom headers or F-body manifolds, the truck manifolds hit into the subframes & even when i re-worked the collectors, it did nothing for me.

Everything else from the truck works. I re-used the trucks electronic throttle body on my LS1 intake & i have a modified truck electronic pedal in my car.

Its definately not a common swap in the thirdgens atleast. If you'd like anymore information, feel free to shoot me a PM.

Sheldon
