I Purchased a 1990 iroc z about 3 months ago no motor no trans i started building a 350 and i got a eldebrock preformer rpm intake manifold....i didnt know if that would be too much of a rise for the hood or not. i really dont want to go to a aftermarket hood i like the stock hood on it....also i got one more question about water pump....will i need to run a short shaft?

Re: hood clearance

long water water pump and yes it should fit. I run a Performer RPM and a holley and it fits under my stock hood with a drop base air cleaner.

Re: hood clearance

I am not sure of the inches but it could drop any more or the lid would be too close to the carb. It has dimples for the holley fuel bowls or it wouldn't even come close to going on all the way. Sorry I cant give you a more accurate measurement right now but if you want I will measure it tomorrow for you. I would say like 3 inches.

If you have any problems getting it running, let me know, mine gave me fits so I might be able to help. It is all still fresh in my mind I put it in a few weeks ago and I just got it running "right" yesterday.

Depends upon the other accessories you run. Typical from late 60's to 1987 was a long water pump, but the 1988-up serpentine belt system needs a reverse rotation water pump, which doesn't come in "long" and "short".

And, it's not the water pump shaft that is short or long, it's the length from the engine mounting surface to the pulley mounting surface.
