86' z28 with 350

Hey guys im newish to the site and i don't know to much about cars but im learning. I recently (bout a month and a half ago) bought an 86' z28 with an eblebrock carbed 350 with a mild cam, i think an edlebrock intake and headers (idk what kind of headers) idk much of the details. when i recently had a valve job done (burnt 2 valves bout a week and a half ago) my friend said it had a 350 block outta a 87-89 truck that was orginal fuel injected and it was slighty bored or somethin (i work in a machine shop but idk bout engine honeing ) . counting the $1800 i payed for it i would say i've got at least $2500 in the bought 2 months i've owned it and probably plenty to go . anyways i know the engine mods are kinda vauge (cause i don't know to much about it myself) but does anyone have a rough idea of the hp that it should be puttin out? any idea for any mods i could/should make (im a teenager on a budget for now). o and i know i won't be getting any great mpg but i figured it out to around 8 right now with normal driveing (no im not lead footed), but i figured i could do better than 8mpg so if u have any idea of a way to get at least a little better mileage without giveing up power please tell. any help, thoughts, and ideas are more than welcome , (sorry its a little long winded i wanted to fit ever thing in which i still didn't do)

I'd guess it should be good for 250-300rwhp knowing just what you said, which would ideally be a mid 13 second 100mph 1/4-mile. For now, I'd find out what model carb you have (should be some 4 digit number on the front base of the carb, probably starting with 14 or 18) and get the calibration kit for it. There should be a book with the kit to show you what combination of rod/jet will do what. I'd guess that you want at least less fuel when cruising, but you really need either a dyno, dragstrip, and/or a wideband air fuel ratio gauge to get accurate on the WOT fueling and would be ideal for cruising fuel also. Other thing is making sure you have overdrive and converter lockup working too, if it is using an automatic transmission.

Re: 86' z28 with 350

o and i think the whoever swapped the engine planned to or did race it cause it doesn't have an air compresser. certain parts of the car look/are great but others seem kinda peiced together to make a "whole car" its missing the back hatch carpet and the hatch motor is dangleing in peices the passenger door lock and t-top lock have been drilled out, the rear tires are bald and the front 2 look brand new, on the driver door the weather striping is in peices and even has small peices of some other matrail screwed on to stop it from hitting the door or any screws (how hard/expensive is it to replace the stripping at the bottom of the windows), there are two fog lights on the front that look like they've never been hooked up even thought theres a toggle switch for them, the dash speakers look new but only the left one plays (sometimes) i think the other ones blown and this one is going (planning to replace soon), it has no sun visors, and the only thing holding the appulstry up is the rear view mirror (which i think is kinda funny). the temp gauge is broke but theres an after market on hooked up, the tach read to high(i know it is by a precent but it looks around 1500-2500 to high) if anyone knows where i could go to get it fixed i would love to know (i love the look of the tach), when first got it there was a honda gas cap on it (that change in a hurry ), i think somethins up with the headlight wireing to cause they've gone out on me at night on 2 occasions but when i push the **** in and pull it back out they came back on, the car is great and i love it but for ever thing great about it theres two minor things wrong with it, its got a pretty good looking cail induction hood (probably miss spelled o well its late) nice rims, nice looking and sounding pipes, and the t-tops that don't leak, and plenty of other stuff i can't think of right now. o and the gas gauge kinda flickers around, do i just have to replace the sending unit to fix that or what? anyway if u read all this thanks and once again i would love any of ur thoughts or ideas. i know its got a lonnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggg way to go but shes gonna look great when i get done with her. i've been reading a lot of the post on here and its made me want to do alot of stuff to it(eventually) like the white gauge faces, B&M either quicksiler or megashifter, if i can get it hooked up right and installed so it looks good, and the guy who did the cupholder thing i thought that was pretty sweet, and some more major stuff when i get the funds. anyway im gonna try to wrap this up now because it looks like im writeing a book. and im sorry if this is in the wrong forum i just didn't know where to put it. thanks again for takeing the time to read this.
