454 in '84 T/A
Hi all, I'm new to the forum, but not to wrenching on Camaros.
I have an '84 T/A, with the '84-only ground effects. At the local Pick-N-Pull I grabbed a 454 from a '94 Suburban 4x4. I was under the impression that the truck oil pan would not work, but I tried it anyway. With the intake and exhaust manifolds removed, as well as the starter, and all the stuff in front, like water pump and brackets, I got ready for the test fit. I'll hafta find the pics. Anyway, I used Moroso's solid motor mounts for my car with a 305, both the block halves and the frame halves. I left the valve covers on.
I shoulda used an engine tilter, to avoid bashing the heater box, but I have a spare. So I attached a failed 700R-4 and lowered it in.
The oilpan was snug against the crossmember, but it did fit. So I grabbed the truck exhaust manifolds, and there's NO chance of using either one in ANY position. Those went in the trash. I krazy-glued the heater box back together to it's original shape, and it cleared the valve cover. This is NOT a tall-deck block.
At this point, the engine is disassembled, but before removing the oilpan, I clearanced it slightly with a big hammer. Maybe not the best, but it will serve. These solid mounts will require having the rotating/reciprocating assembly balanced at an automotive machine shop, but should be the best if I go with Patriot H8012s instead of the Hooker headers.

Not sure how the patriot headers fit. Hookers are not a great fit and it's easier to install them into the engine bay before dropping in the engine.
