Is this a good idea?

Im swapping a 350 carb engine into my camaro that had a 305 carb and 700r4 automatic transmission and i'm wondering about the intake manifolds. I stopped by a local shop and the owner said he would trade me a stock 305 aluminum intake manifold for my stock cast iron 350 intake manifold. Is that a good trade? That way i would be able to keep my stock electric carb and egr valve stuff so my car doesn't run any codes. What do you guys think? Does the 350 intake manifold provide better airflow and performance than the 305? Is aluminum vs. iron a good idea for saving weight?

I have another carb but its a manual choke holley 700cfm

to my knowledge there is no difference between the two. as long as its for pre87 sbc it should fit.

3rd gen V8's had aluminum intake manifolds except for some exported new to Canada.

Other than that, the aluminum 305 intake will be fine on a 350. They didn't make 305- and 350-specific intakes.

Re: Is this a good idea?

Your other choices ate the GM ZZ4 intake, the Edelbrock Performer EGR, the Weiand 8000, and Holley has one, It's either the 300-48 or the 300-64, I think. The GM and Weiand are both for the pre-87 heads, and vette heads, while Edelbrock and Holley do 87 style as well as pre-87. All 4 are legal, but the Weiand has an E.O. number cast right into it. The Performer is known to be worth 25 horses on an otherwise stock L69 305. At 5000 rpm. The others are comparable. Dunno about Holley, but the others will fit under your stock hood, carb and air cleaner.
