Give me some hot drop-in ideas

The LS1 project is on hold until I can accumulate more funds, until then I'm looking for something just to drop in so I can have fun/cruise. Getting the car repainted to a light blue as well and I want a good job done, so I'm looking for a turn-key drop in carbed setup at around 1-3k. What would you guys suggest? I was thinking along the lines of a mild 350/383, nothing too crazy since I'm running stock tranny/rear.

Any ideas on how to make the car fun with a decent motor swap, perhaps change the gear in the rear as well? Just want to know what to do with it for now to make it fun/quick, I'm currently running the stock 305 that's been converted to carb, when we first got the car it was tpi, needed head gaskets, we redid the motor but we neglected to do a valve-job so it runs like ****, don't really want to keep the 305 anyway.

Suggest me some decent, cost-friendly drop-ins and supporting mods to hold me over!

Also if any of you guys are in CT and have some engines laying around that would fit the criteria let me know with a price, thanks!

You can check ebay for anything local. I like all the GMPP motors. Junkyard motors can be fun and cheap. A stock 5.7 from a truck and a 150hp bottle ........ run it till she blows!
