I have an 85 TPI Z28. I also just happen to have a 400 SBC that I am wanting to put in the Camaro. I was looking for suggestions for Heads, Cam, and Intake setup. I want a daily driver with lots of Torque and at least 400 hp but would like 425-450hp. I am planning on keeping the rpms low. Can anyone let me in on some info. Thank you

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

TPI is limiting even to a 305, let alone a 400. You should figure on hardware upgrades such as larger runners and base, along with porting the plenum. A Holley/Weiand Stealth Ram intake would be a less expensive and more capable change, but tends to raise the RPM powerband.

There are a couple of 400 SBC threads going right now. The really long one has a bunch of information about heads.

Re: 408 TPI Swap
i agree with five7kid your going to need to feed the 400 a heck of alot more than you would the 305 your tpi most likely is coming from can feed for..

but if you get heads and a set of pistons with a decent comp ratio you are going to need a decent size cam and that will up your rpm range as well as the stealth ram.

by keeping the rpms low how low are you talking here?
