Gen1 SBC Edelbrock Performer RPM with LT1 heads?

How off is the Gen1 intake bolt holes from the lt1 heads?
which would be closer (if at all) to the lt1 intake head holes pre 86 or newer intakes? if you can weld up the intake holes and drill new ones to match that of the lt1 heads would you end up in the ports on the intake? i know they make a carbed lt1 intake but anyway to covert a gen1 intake to except lt1 heads?

The obvious question is, why are you thinking of doing this?

I imagine the answer is, "Because I have a set of LT1 heads and want to use them."

If that is the reason, my recommendation would be, "Sell the LT1 heads, buy Vortec heads, get a Vortec intake."

This certainly qualifies for a "lots of maze for no cheese at the end" award.

The ports line up, the bolt holes do not. You'd just have to drill new holes in the intake to make it bolt up and match. Not a big deal.

The problem with the LT1 heads is that the coolant routing is completely different, and requires alot of cutting, grinding, and welding to make them work on a Gen I motor. Unless you can do that work yourself, its really not worth it to pay someone to do it. You'd have alot of money tied up into that job... the kind of money that would have gotten you a set of heads what will just bolt on and work.

I do agree with Five7, though maybe he did come off a little brash in his post, that Vortec heads are probably the best route for you. They are very similar to the LT1 heads (They are LT1 based heads actually) but will work with all the normal Gen 1 stuff, except the intake, with no modifications. All thats required is a Vortec style intake. You can get a set of Vortecs that already have all the high perf mods, like screw-in studs, shaved valve guides, etc.. for under $600. It will probably cost you more than that just to get the LT1 heads modified to work.
