New owner, need info on swap!

Hey everyone,

I just bought an 88 iroc to replace my 87 camino. The camino has a recently new engine and tranny in it that I would love to swap out. problem is, I don't know much about motor swaps.

The camino has a 350 that is carbed. The only info I have on the camaro is that it is a 350 four barrel.

This is a picture of the engine in the camaro if its any help:

I'd love any input. Thanks!

You're going to swap a carbed 350 for a carbed 350. Before I did that swap I'd want to know exactly what I'm swapping. "Recently new" doesn't tell much and doesn't necessarily mean better. What I'm saying is you're talking about a bit of effort, time and money and it might not produce any noticeable improvement. Also you didn't mention where you are going to be trying to smog it and if that's something to consider. You have two running vehicles right now and you're going to cancel one out? It might be better to sell the el camino and use the money to upgrade the Camaro. Headers and exhaust system is your best bang for buck right now.

The problem with the el camino is that the body is wearing down fast. The engine and tranny are things that I had put into it. I'm taking everything out of the camino that is good and putting it to use, selling the rest of the body.

I have no idea if the 350 in the camaro works right yet. I don't have the keys or battery to try to turn it over (going to try today after replacing the hatch). The car is a theft recovery, so everything in it is questionable right now.

I'm not worried about the smog or emmisions. This is Rhode Island. All you have to do is know someone.

Thanks for the comments!

Well, the 350 in the Iroc may not be a 350 since all fo the 350's in them were TPI. The engine in it may be a 305 TBI which I believe you could still get in '88. I would check the back of the block and get the casting number off of it.
