New engine:looking for how to do it advice
New engine:looking for how to do it advice
hi i'm in the process of buying a camaro to fix up. I decided that I'll probably got a 305 or 350 car with a 700R4 trans and posi rear. What i'm not sure about, is the kind of motor work. i know that i want a 350, and want it to put out around 325-350 hp.what i'm not sure about is the best way to do it. I thought about possibly boring it, and some big valve aluminum heads with a 4 barrel edelbrock on top. could anybody let me know the best way to do it. I want it to possibly have a mild cam also to make it rumble at red lights.

Are you talking about 325-350 HP the way crate engines are rated, or 325-350 HP the way engines in cars are rated from the factory?
The difference is significant. To make 350 HP the way engines in cars are rated from the factory, you're going to have to make about 435 HP the way crate engines are rated.
If you're talking about 325-350 HP the way crate engines are rated, you don't need big valves - 1.94/1.50" will do it easily. It doesn't take much cam, something in the 265-270 advertised duration range in a modern grind will do that.
If you mean the 435 HP, that's a different story. Getting that much out of a 350 starts making it less street-friendly.
And, in case there is any misunderstanding, you don't bore an engine to make more power or to handle bigger valves; you bore an engine to give the pistons and rings a clean round surface to run on.

You're going to have to build the engine for a tad over 400 HP the way crate engines are rated.
This head/intake kit http://www.sdparts.com/product/SD806...RPMAirGap.aspx , a Holley 650-750 CFM double pumper (sorry, I can't recommend or approve anything with an Edelbrock carb on it), cam like a Comp XE268 or XE274, good exhaust, you'll be in the 300+ net range.
Of course, it'll be completely emissions illegal.
