Flywheel
Flywheel
I am putting a 350 into an 86 Trans Am. Am having Flywheel/starter/torque converter issues. The 350 has a larger flywheel so my starter and torque converter dont match up. Can I use the 305 flywheel? I have heard that there are balance issues. Do they make a 153 tooth for a 350? If I use a smaller flywheel on the 350 do I use a stock harmonic balancer?

Re: Flywheel
first, the later engines with 1-piece rear main seal used a balance weight on the flywheel (manual trans) or flexplate(automatic trans). second, Chevy also changed the bolt pattern on the crank. Early flexplates stay with early engines, late flexplates stay with late engines. Now, the late 305 and late 350 can interchange flexplates. The late flexplates were offered in both 153 tooth for F-car, and 168 tooth for fullsize pickups. Or you can change your starter and torque converter. In any case, leave your 350's damper alone. The earlier flexplates were also offered in both 153 and 168 tooth versions.

Re: Flywheel
Thanks for the thanks. So many people just don't appreciate the help enough to say so, then who wants to help them again?
