Heres my plan. Missing anything, or anything wrong?
right now i have the 305 in my 84 Z28. i have a 350 block bored .030 over.
im looking at some engine kits to put in.
there is this one
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku
and along with that, here is the top end kit im looking at
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
in addition with those i plan on putting SFCs, i got an aluminum driveshaft. i have 3.73 gears with a posi waiting to be put in.
i'll be running a dual exhaust of course. i found cross-members from summit that allow a dual exaust to go through easily, though i just looked at it and it didnt have any for third gen F-bodies. they did however for G-bodies.
oh and what kind of carb should i run?
are there any other things that i'm missing? i know there are many other small things that i need to get. but do those kits seem to be fine and am i on the right track?

You could do that. But since you're buying a crank and pistons, why not do a 383?

i was thinking about that, but dont i have to get some machine work done to the block for that? i thought it did and it would be like 400-500 bucks

to get a 383 all you need to do is bore 30 over and get a 400 crank. you already said you bored ir 30 over right? all you need is a crank

There will be some slight clearancing to do at the bottom of the cylinders and the pan rails, but you can do that for almost free.

how big of a difference in gas mileage would there be from the 355 to the 383?

Considering that TFS top end kit you're considering, it could work out equal, depending on your choice of axle ratio. At worst, 3 mpg less.

would it still be able to be my daily driver? (the gas mileage isnt that big of a factor)

383. Do it! Watch your oil pan rails. You can clearance your block yourself, its easy. Have you bought these parts already?

Re: Heres my plan. Missing anything, or anything wrong?
no right now im saving up. i plan on buying the SFCs sometime soon. i plan to build the engine in the summer. thats when i'll have a large flow of money because i'll have my one job + lifeguarding in the summer.
i already have the stuff for the rearend in my room and the driveshaft on the way.
i just wanted to know if i was on the right track so i knew where to put my money.
but like i said, if i do the 383, will i be able to have it as a daily driver? not so much on the gas end i mean.
oh and my friend thats also building a 383, said the machine work for the block was about 200 bucks

There are guys that are running 383s that say they get better gas mileage. Mine is about the same as my worn out 350. Tune it right and you will be happy. Clearancing the block is easy. Trust me. You can do it.

yeah it would still be a daily driver. like he said though your axle and gears will help determine your fuel milage. go for a 383. it just sounds better

Re: Heres my plan. Missing anything, or anything wrong?
That rotating assembly that you are thinking about at Summit is like $859. My rotating assembly is an eagle for a couple hundered more. I had my block machined at a machine shop and I spent an hour or so clearancing it for that bada$$ crank. I used a drill with a stone, a zip tie, and looooots of carb cleaner. I bought a small base grind cam from comp with matching lifters because I didn't want to notch my rods. I ran vortec heads so we won't even get into all that. The shortblock didn't even take half a day to put together. It kinda depends on what you want that car to do for the cam you want though. If you go with a small base grind, make sure to use a pushrod length checker because you probably won't be able to go with stock length. It's a torque MONSTER!
