Re: Transmission
I looked at the sticky and it really doesn't have a clear cut "V6 700r4 will not work on a V8". You will need a 700r4 from a V8 car.
Urbana is a bit of a hike from here but I am about to do a 5-speed swap and will be selling my 700r4, shifts like a champ not a single problem. PM me if interested.

From the sticky:
"1. Anything the V6 bolts to, and anything that bolts to the V6, will be different than the V8."
The engine and transmission bolt to each other, do they not?

Couldn't tell from your question which transmission you were asking about. Since the common question is, "Can I use my V6 transmission for my V8 swap?", that would be the default assumption when it isn't clear which transmission is the subject of the question.
Did you read #8 of the swap sticky?

I'm strapped for $ and this swap is out of necessity, although it's always been my desire as well. So I'm looking at running engine/ tranny together on craigslist for under $400. If you're thinking you want less than $150 we should talk, I really don't know what they are worth on here. This stuff is worth more to you guys than your average guy with a wrecked caprice in the paper.
Oh and I need a mechanical one. My car's got a wiring problem

You appear to want to be given a fish. I was simply trying to teach you to fish. I was not giving you the run-around or an attitude. The information was right there where I suggested you look.
Okay, here's the fish, completely spelled out: Any V8 TH700R-4 2-wheel drive transmission will bolt into the car, as will the 4.3l V6 TH700R-4 2-wheel drive transmissions. Unless the transmission came from an f-body car, you will need to swap the tailshaft housing from your current TH700R-4 to the new one. 4 bolts, no special tools needed.
TH700R-4's are mechanical except for the torque converter lock-up function. If you do not have a computer to accomplish that function, you will need to provide it via other means, either by hard wiring it (there's a tech article about that), or by using a kit available from TCI, B&M, Summit, Jegs, etc. If you do not provide the torque converter lock-up function, you will burn up your transmission.
The Board also has this nifty function called
. This question is asked over and over. If you've been around the Board for 5 years, you should know how to use the
function.
The Board also has rules about appropriate language. If you've forgotten those rules in the last 5 years, take the time to review them.

Re: Transmission
You were giving me attitude with that crack about the tranny and the engine being attached to one another....That had nothing to do with my question and regardless, it was unneeded.,
Look, I'm busy. I used to have the 3 hours it took to hunt down info on here. I don't.
I asked because I KNOW plenty of you have the answer to this easy question and it isn't hard at all for someone to answer it. That's the point of this board. You guys act like if a question has ever been answered before then I'm an idiot for asking. It's elitist and condescending. What happened to people just being nice and helping one another out? It shouldn't be such a hassle to ask questions on here, and I especially shouldn't be hassled by a mod.
The best thing you could have done was just ignore my post and let other people help me. You added nothing positive to this thread.
Thanks for the info, really. I understand the importance of "fishing" but I wanted advice specific to me through a discussion with other people, and that's what message boards are about. YOU seem to have forgotten that.
Just delete the whole thread. My asking for simple help turned into something very negative, frustrating and unnecessary. Because a Camaro that hasn't ran for 4 years isn't enough frustration, now I get your grief.

Perspective, I guess. I asked a simple question, you displayed the attitude. There was certainly no intent on my part to impart grief.
You're only thinking about it from one person's perspective - yours. Think about it from the perspective of someone who reads over 100 posts in a typical day. Out of those 100 posts, perhaps 5 are not repetitive - i.e., something that is not seen several times a week.
What is really ironic is another member sent me a PM yesterday asking how I find the patience to keep answering questions that have been asked a thousand times before.
I could have just said "
".
Or, "This question is asked over and over, and answered in the sticky. Figure it out yourself."
But, I didn't. Apparently, that still doesn't meet your standards.
Sorry about what you perceive as your wasted time. Perhaps you could consider the time I spend at this as well.
(In case you think otherwise, this is entirely voluntary on my part. I don't get paid for this.)

Since you've deleted your earlier posts, I'm going to lock this for the record. Obviously you don't want your actions to be preserved.
