Trans Am 305-350

This is an 84 trans am with t tops and a perfect body.
The Trans just got rebuilt and the 350 has just been bored out .003 over.
It has a racing cam and racing distributor. I have most of the parts.
I just want to know what i should put on.
I am also doing a Headers conversion. should i get a new exhaust or just keep the ones it has?

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

Do you have any more details about the cam? "Racing cam" is pretty generic, and means different things to different people. Cam part number, or specs such as lift, duration, and LSA, would be helpful. The cam is the heart of the engine, and what else you do really revolves around that.

Also would help to have details about your transmission and rear gears.

You should probably replace the whole exhaust. Hooker 2055HKR works well with almost any street SBC set-up. Best y-pipe available off-the-shelf, and while you're at it, you should replace all of the exhaust with parts for the '86-'90 TPI single cat application (same as the 2055HKR's).

Do you still have the original carb and distributor? If so, 90% of the time it will be the best possible combination for a street performance 350. The other 10% is for manual transmission cars.

Re: Trans Am 305-350

Sorry bout that. i was out of it last night. i believe that it is a 3.23 rear end. I am putting a new eddlebrock 750 cfm carb and it has a mallory distributor. The guy told me it was a radical cam..... other than that im not really sure on the lift, duration, and LSA. But the guy that had it before knew what he was doing.

Re: Trans Am 305-350

finally found it! lucky bastard. I hate you, lol. are you sure it was a 305 before that engine went in? I really didn't see any proof of that. gotta find out what kind of heads that thing has. hopefully 2.02s. you also might have 2.73 rear end. I think you should just go with making a y-pipe for now, till you get the $$$ for the SLP. first thing's first, round up some bolts and get some gaskets! we'll see who has the faster car once you get it going (probably not me). At least I've got the right transmission. where's your clutch? (automatics, yuck! you might have a 700R4)

Re: Trans Am 305-350

okay. so i have learned a lot about this car and engine in the last couple months. I have gotten many parts and have a couple of questions. first.. how could i hook up a coil to an aftermarket distributor..? would i have to get an adapter kit because the stock wires wont hook up to the new coil.?

Re: Trans Am 305-350

don't worry about that, we'll figure that minor detail out wednesday. The big thing right now is making sure that balancer is on all the way, so what do you think guys? how far on is all the way on?
