350 swap questions
well iv been planing on replaceing the 305 i have in my camaro causes its starting to get tired (292,000 miles) so i was planing on doing a lt1 swap but i dont think i have the experiance to pull that kind of swap yet so iv been thinking of just throwing in a 350tbi out of a suburban or somthing but i had a few questions just to clarify everything and i know most of u will probley just say
but i couldnt find to clear of answers so.
first question im looking at a engine on craigslist its a 350tbi out of a 91 suburban but i herd somewhere (some car show i think) that for a engine swap the engine has to be newer then the car to be able to pass emissions wich i need the car to do. so is that true or sould i just look for a new engine?
second as far as all the parts i need for the swap dont i just need
* 350 ESC module
* ecm & injectors
* Headers
or am i forgetting some stuff? and will the 305 harness work? i wont have to do any wiring right?

I have a whole TBI unit(with ultimate TBI mods) with 350 injectors in it, and 2 350 tbi ECM's(one from a 91 Roadmaster and one from a blazer.... If you need anything let me know i did this swap already. I actually have 3 tbi units.... 305 TBI to 350 TBI, easiest swap you could possibly do, everything is the same, just bolt up and go.... its pretty simple.... yes the 305 harness will work...

Re: 350 swap questions
The 2 ECMs work fine, i originally had the Blazer ECM and i didn't like it b/c the stock tune only allows the rpms the run out until about 4800 rpms then the injectors are running static and the engine will runs like crap until the car shifts again... the Roadmaster ECM fixed this problem but it had a speed limiter set at 110... but i had a chip burned to remove that, haha

It could be argued that the LT1 swap would be easier than what it might take to get a TBI 350 properly tuned, depending upon what else you did (like the headers).

Re: 350 swap questions
i am doing the same swap but with tpi(even harder). You will need to get your prom in the computer retuned. For that you can type howell motors in google and send them an e-mail about what to do about the computer. You also need to find a motor that will have the same lower intake, so that it will bolt up the right way and you'll have no problems. But thats about all i know (so far) how to do along with what the other people said about injectors

Re: 350 swap questions
would it pass if i could find a 350 from a caprice instead of a truck? . i was just thinking that the lt1 swap would be alot more wiring and im not the best at that lol

The 350 system from a Caprice would at least be legal.
The LT1 wiring isn't all that difficult. Running AC is a lot more difficult.

Re: 350 swap questions
ok after some research i think i get everything i need to do for the lt1 swap (fuel lines,fuel pump, power steering lines, ect) but the only thing that i really dont get is the wiring. and thats the one thing with cars that i like to stay away from. so is there a place where i can get a harness made to where i can just plug and play and not have to do any splicing of wires cause i really dont what to mess up my car, plus i found a lt1 from a 95 z28 on craigslist for 500$ with 80k miles but it doesn't have the harness or pcm.

Not sure if you've looked at it yet, but there is an LT1 swap sticky https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...questions.html
Personally, I'm cheap. I can't see spending $500-$700 for something that I can do myself. Yes, you can send your harness off to someone and have them modify it so it clicks into your car, but the amount of rewiring it takes to do this is really very minor. And, you'll learn more about what makes your car tick.
Up to you, though.
