1992 camaro RS

hello everyone, im very new to this site so i dont know how this works yet, be that as it may i have a few questions and need some help. i own a 1992 camaro and decided its time to fix it the right way my transmission blew out and the rear end, i bought a used tranny and rear-end, the thing is that the speedometer is off by a lot so instead of my car running 110-120 it runs about 85 mph so its sucks, i want to make this into a daily driver with some horsepower.... so how do i do this? do i keep the 305 and modify it or should i swap it with a ls1 and if so what other upgrades do i need to make and how much money? i plan on turning it into a stick shift and want a good posi-rearend with it so i need some help this car needs a lot of work.....thanks

Re: 1992 camaro RS

welcome to 3rd gen.
there are probably only 10,000 lines on this board devoted to that issue. when you finish reading this go up to the red line and use the search key. a lot of your answers will be found on the various sub boards.
i can tell you what i am doing and everyone else has a different way.
i have stock 90 305, that i owned since new and drive daily. i bought a zz4 cam - with springs, and lifters. i need to get some rockers - i want 8 1.6 full rollers for intake and 8 1.5 for exhaust.
i have a set of hooker 2055 heads - probably the most common on this board. they feed into a 3 inch y pipe with a new carb approved 3 inch cat. from there they flow into a 3 inch chambered exhaust 31 inches long that runs along the drive shaft and up and over the rear end.
for gas i bought a 91 full tpi system with all wires, computer, egr, and distributer.
now i am looking for heads. i was thinking about putting a set of 601's on but no matter what i put on i will have to either pin the studs or drill them out and put in screw ins. because the rockers will be more than .470 i will have to shave the rocker stud base so they dont hit.
but i may also use 081 heads but the same goes for the mods - but at least i will not have to modify the tpi intake to fit the 90 degree center holes as the 081 has the 72 degree ones which is what my tpi and even my old tbi is.
that mine in a nutshell. comes out to about 1500.00 and that does not count a new rear end which i have to get, the complete re do of my suspension - just stock - and the new leather 6 way seats and new carpet and the installation - as well as tires.

YOU WILL NEVER BE DONE.

it goes on and on. you will either love it or you will hate it there is no middle ground of "i'm just going to do this and that it" stuff.

dont forget the search key - there are thousands of posts about tpi - maf v map; tbi, headers, heads, cat back, etc. i hope you love to read as much as you love to work on cars.
