Help with engine decision
Hi guys, I just purchased a High Mileage 91 z28 with a LB9 in it (it currently runs strong but I know its a matter of time). I also have an 89 RS (TBI) with a recently swapped low buck/econo gmpp engine 12499529 with less than 500Miles on it.
My question. Would the 12499529 be a decent replacement for the TPI engine? I know the 'cons' of that engine and that its not really a performance engine, but do I let the new engine go when I sell the 89 rs and walk away or do I pull it and put it on a stand and wait a year or so until the LB9 gives way? Keep in mind if I pull it, it costs me nothing more than my time.
How well will that engine work with a 91 TPI setup? The last thing I want is a vehicle which never runs right if you know what I mean.
Thanks guys.
Dave

So-so heads (better than swirlports)
Hyd Tappet cam (eww)
2 piece rear main (need new flywheel)
While not ideal, it should work with the TPI, youll just have to modify the center intake bolt hole angles (easy). Your tune will be off substantially adding additional cost for the swap
A better option would be to buy a used lower mileage LB9 or L98(with ECM) and swap in
