carb to tpi fuel pump

Car: 1987 formula firebird
Engine: 350 TPI
Transmission: t5
carb to tpi fuel pump
for some reason I thought the sending unit would be the same. so all I would need is a fuel pump. but I was wrong. now the question is should I just get the right sender unit and a fuel pump or for about half the price should I plumb up a universal fuel pump?
I guess I am asking if the idea with the universal pump can even work?

Only if the "universal" pump will provide sufficient pressure for EFI.
