2.8 to 350 questions

Hey guys!! Been a while since ive been on here (life). Anyway I am getting ready to put a newer 350 (one piece rear main) in our 87 firebird that I got from a friend. The car had a 2.8 in it and not to long before he got rid of it he had to put new motor mounts in it. I know that the v-8 mounts bolt further ahead on the crossmember than the 2.8. But are they the same mounts???? Or do i need to get V-8 mounts??? My friend also had to replace the fuel pump in the tank not long before the motor went bad. And the 350 is a factory roller motor so there is no place for a mechanical fuel pump so I am wondering if I can use the intank fuel pump and regulate it down for a carb??? I belive that the pumps for a 2.8 only put out like 15 or so psi, correct??? And one other thing, I need a flex plate for my one piece 350 and I happen to have 2 from newer 4.3s, does anyone know if they are ballanced the same as a 350???? Thanks for any advice!!!!

Re: 2.8 to 350 questions

There might be a way to use the 2.8 mounts right where they are, using adapter mounts intended for people putting a SBC into an S-10 that had a 2.8, but I suggest you just get the V8 stuff. An '87 2.8 ran about 39 psi of fuel pressure. Still, you can regulate it, but the flow won't be enough for a strong 350. Maybe a stock one. As for the 4.3 flexplate, you'll hafta take it to the local auto parts store and compare both the size and placement of the weight on yours compared to a correct new flexplate for the V8. Clean yours up first. One thing I do know is that the V8 flexplates put the same weight in the same place whether it's 153 tooth or the larger 168 tooth. I've done that comparison for myself.
